Employment Z-visas give the bearer legal tax status in China and allow entry to China for purpose of work employment.  Teachers seeking ESL Employment in China require to obtain a z-visa prior to entry.  Regulations are now in strict enforcement and many provinces are no longer converting tourist or business visas to employment z-visa status.

It is very important to note that a z-visa grants access to China only and is valid for a period of no more than 30-days.  You must register at the local Public Security Bureau within 48 hours of arriving.

The, "000" means only one entry for 30-days.  During this period your employer should begin the formalities of registering you for a Residence Permit.    Once a Resident Permit is obtained, you will be able to travel in and out of China without the need of a multiple entry visa for as long as your residence permit is good for.  Residence permits are usually valid for one-year.

Teachers and employees who will be who will be working in China for one year require a physical examination form in order to obtain their visa.  If you wish to extend your working visa while in China,  you will need a letter of reference from your original employer saying that you completed the terms of employment successfully.  Call us for rush service. Chinese Visa Policy Tightens

The Entry and Exit Administration Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security has tightened its regulations pertaining to the issuance, renewal and alteration of visas.  The changes took effect July 2007.  For the foreseeable future, it will no longer be possible to change or extend tourist (L) and exchange (F) -type visas to other types.  Many applications that formerly could be handled by a representative now must be completed in person by the applicant.  Additionally, express visa service is no longer available.  Enforcement has tightened of entry and exit violations, with recent reports of police, school administrators and hotel staff checking to ensure that foreigners have not overstayed their visas.

Please be advised that current regulations state that the penalty for overstaying a visa is 500 RMB per day of overstay, not to exceed 5000 RMB and/or detention.  The period of detention can range from 5-30 days depending on the severity of the violation.  Detention may be longer than 30 days in the case that the authorities believe that the foreigner was involved in criminal activity. The Embassy is aware of several recent detentions of American citizens relating to visa overstays and violating the terms of their visas (i.e. working while on a visitor’s visa).

Many provinces now require teacher delegates to provide proof of medical coverage before invitations are issued.  You may get a free Travel Medical Insurance Quote here:  -TravelEx Insurance Quotes

Z VISAS AND RESIDENCE PERMIT DIFFERENCES

The Z-visa is a diplomatic matter. It is issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, controlling foreign visitors of any purpose coming into the territory of China. The residence-permit, on the other hand, is a domestic issue. It is issued by the Municipal Public Security Bureau, controlling people, regardless of their hometown/country who are living with in the territory of China. Any non-Chinese citizen who wants to work in China has to obtain both in order to start his/her career.

HONG KONG VISAS

A visa is not required to enter Hong Kong if your planned stay is less than 90-days.  If you want to stay for more than 90-days, you must complete the Hong Kong Visa Application Form and be sponsored by a company or person residing in HK.

Travelers seeking to enter Mainland China from Hong Kong will need to obtain their travel visa prior to entry into mainland China and it is strongly suggested to obtain the Chinese Visa before your trip.

WARNING: One-Way Airfare to China

If you are traveling to China on a one-way ticket for the purpose of working and residing in China. You should have the proper visa.  Some teachers have reported having trouble departing on one-way visas without the proper visa.
